CASE STUDY:
Empowering Female Leadership at CARFAX
In 2022, CARFAX wanted to proactively mitigate the risk of women leaving their workforce, a trend seen at competitors.
CARFAX sought out ways to develop the careers of the women employees and combat attrition. The hope was to find a solution that was vocally supported by leadership, actively engaged their employees and had minimal administrative work.
*Most CARFAX programs have traditionally been in-house; PILOT is one of the only external vendors chosen to work with CARFAX employees.
AT A GLANCE
BACKGROUND
CARFAX is an Automotive Database company based in the United States that provides vehicle history information for buyers and sellers of used cars. CARFAX has over 1,000 employees distributed across multiple states and regions. '
CHALLENGE
Combat the attrition of women in CARFAX from COVID-19 by advancing advocacy, community and empowerment.
See women at CARFAX grow in self awareness, gain new skills as female leaders and establish community with one another.
Career Development for Career Empowerment
CARFAX identified 27 top performers who were already making an impact on the company to participate in the program. Leadership and staff anticipated that their participation in PILOT would be impactful for their careers.
The goal was for the 27 women to see growth in self awareness, new skills as female leaders, and connections with one another.
Beginning in February 2022 over 6 months, the 27-person cohort completed weekly reflection activities, live group coaching sessions based on PILOT's seven career development themes, and Fireside Executive Chats presented by powerful voices in their industry.
“I learned that you are the best person to advocate for yourself. Your future is in your hands, so make the most of it.”
Measurable Impact
100% of CARFAX participants said they felt valued because PILOT was offered to them.
100% of CARFAX participants said they felt valued because PILOT was offered to them.
CARFAX was able to implement PILOT into the development of their employees seamlessly, resulting in a culture binding experience that engaged senior leader management and drove notable growth.
CARFAX reported improvements within the cohort toward all three goals with PILOT: grow self awareness and confidence, pick up new skills as female leaders, and connect with each other and learn and grow from each other.
PILOT observed that the 27 women had consistently high engagement with every PILOT activity and module, attributing to the 100% completion rate of the cohort.
To celebrate the growth and engagement of the cohort, all members received official completion certificates. With the PILOT team present, the certificates were presented during a special graduation ceremony by CARFAX CEO, Bill Eager; VP of Human Resources, Adrienne Webster; and HR Director, Katie Lottes.
SOLUTION
Invest in 27, high potential female employees by deploying an award-winning career development program that connects them across offices.
RESULTS
The CARFAX PILOT cohort attained all three of CARFAX’s goals:
Grow self awareness and confidence amongst female leaders.
Pick up the new skills needed as female leaders.
Connect with each other, learn and grow together.
Participants grew in 4 out of 4 of the PILOT competencies: Inward Reflection, Soliciting Feedback, Self-Advocacy and Taking Action. The most significant growth was seen in Self-Advocacy. This was self-reported by participants and their direct managers.
“Participating in PILOT made me feel that CARFAX wanted to invest in my future and cared about my growth and development. I give my all for my employees and this made me feel like the company wanted to give their all to me so I could continue to learn and grow and be a better leader, employee and person.””
